2016 El Cheapo Was Great!
Thank You North Eastern Florida!
The 2016 El Cheapo Sheepshead Tournament was a great success, a great time was had by everyone!
Here is a wrap up from our Tournament Director Rob Darner! The complete results can be found under the El Cheapo Tournament tab at the top left of the home page.
Dear Friends of El Cheapo,
Thank you for participating in the 2016 El Cheapo Sheepshead tournament. This tournament is unique for us because of our long term Tournament Director, Frank Joura decided to step down and fish this year. We have been very lucky to have Frank take the helm and steer our tournament over the last 13 years. At last, we have had a change in leadership for this year. It was my express goal not to fundamentally change the character and shape of the tournament itself.
As for our tournament, we had a total of 402 boats enter the tournament. In the General Division, 121 boats weighed fish for an average of 5.9 pounds. In the Jr. Angler Division, we had 105 entered and 38 juniors weighed fish for an average of 5.7 pound. This year we created a new division: Lady Angler Division. This was a phenomenal success and this exceed what we expected. Thank you to everyone who fished this division. We have 78 ladies fish the newest division with 33 weighing in fish and they averaged 5.3 pounds. A kayak division was also created. There were 13 kayaks participating and 3 weighed fish for an average of 4.06 pounds.
As I have learned, this tournament is not a singular person tournament. This is not an us tournament either. The El Cheapo Sheepshead Tournament is a ‘we’ or community tournament. I am extremely grateful for the 60+ volunteers who labored to bring this tournament to life. Without them, this event could not be what it is today. I am extremely grateful to all of our sponsors who support this tournament and allow this to be truly one of the great fishing events around the Southeast. Please visit our sponsors and let them know what they mean to you and our tournament. I am extremely grateful of you, our tournament fishermen & fisherwomen and Jr’s. To me, this make the El Cheapo our tournament.
I trust everyone had a great time and is looking forward to the 2017 El Cheapo Sheepshead Tournament.
Good Luck in Advance,
Rob Darner
