The kingfish Tune-Up Tournament was a tough one. The weather was good, but the fishing was hard. There were lots of sharks and Cuda’s caught, but the Kingfish were hard to find. With 15 boats entered, only 6 weighed in any fish!
First place went to Vern Summersill, Marcy did the work, and caught a 35 Lb. Kingfish! Then in second, Eddie McGowan with a 30.2 Lb. Kingfish took a big lead in the Captain of the Year race. There are only 3 tournaments left in the race!. Third was Greg Wallace with a 20.4 Lb. Kingfish. 4th was Ray Chancey with a 10.8 Lb. King, then Mike Watts with a 9.2 lb. King and finally Paul Gallup with an 8.9 Lb Fish. |

No, Tina Proescher is NOT standing way back from her Kingfish. That is a 40.5 Lb Kingfish that she caught July 11, 2010. Unfortunately she was not entered in the Kingfish Tournament that was being held out of St. Augustine that day. That fish is a tournament winner, and really one to brag about. I bet that there are not 5 club members that have caught one that big!
Way to go Tina! |

This tournament is open to the public, and becoming a very popular tournament locally, as it is a Catch & Release,"HONOR SYSTEM" event, that only cost $100.00 to enter. The Entry fees go into the prize structure, no trophies.
The entry forms will be in local tackle shops in August, and in the Fishing Connection newspaper, as well as at the JOSFC club meetings in August.
You can also register at the Captain's Meeting on August 27th, Friday evening at 7:00 PM located at the JOSFC Club House.
The Rules are simple. You catch as many Sailfish as you can out of Mayport, documenting the time caught for each fish, and the boat with the most releases wins! Rick Rylas and Charlie Hamaker (The Local Fishing Ledgends that are putting on the tournament. ) will go over the details at the Mandatory Captains Meeting. |

Congratulations Tammy McVea!
Friday, June 18, 2010, Tammy McVea won the Ladies Sailfish Pot! She is now officially Charlene Parker’s new best friend! Tammy will be putting on the Ladies Sailfish Pot Party next year, finally relieving Charlene of that task after several years of putting it on herself.
Tammy and Pat were trolling in about 230’ of water Friday when they hooked up! Tammy grabbed the rod, and found she had a really feisty Sailfish hooked up. Pat said it stripped about 500 yards of line and really put up a good fight, but Tammy fought it all the way to the boat! They quickly took some pictures and released it, healthy and still full of fight, to be caught again some day.
