Let's hope for better weather.
The R & H Sailfish Masters Tournament has been postponed to Saturday Sept 11th. This tournament is open to the public, and becoming a very popular tournament locally, as it is a Catch & Release,"HONOR SYSTEM" event, that only cost $100.00 to enter. The Entry fees go into the prize structure, no trophies.
The entry forms will be in local tackle shops in August, and in the Fishing Connection newspaper, as well as at the JOSFC club meetings in August.
You can also register at the Captain's Meeting on August 27th, Friday evening at 7:00 PM located at the JOSFC Club House.
The Rules are simple. You catch as many Sailfish as you can out of Mayport, documenting the time caught for each fish, and the boat with the most releases wins! Rick Rylas and Charlie Hamaker (The Local Fishing Ledgends that are putting on the tournament. ) will go over the details at the Mandatory Captains Meeting.
The Light Tackle Tournament
Written by Bill Breen
The Light Tackle Tournament was another successful day on the water. 8 club boats participated and all but one weighed in fish! That one lone boat was our president, Chris Rooney. It wasn't because he couldn't catch any fish, but his new boat had engine problems, and he limped in on one engine.
Greg Wallace won the tournament with a very impressive weight of 45.6 pounds! That was (3) Three fish weighing 45.6 pounds on (8) Pound test line! 3 X 8 = 24 that means every fish he caught weighed more than the breaking strength of the line! That shows real skill in playing the fish!
The JOSFC holds the Hamaker Cup for another year! Congratulation to this year's winner of the Hamaker Cup, Captain Mark Aley with a 32.8 lb King. Captain Mark Aley holds a Family membership in the JOSFC.
Captain Mark Aley took 13th place overall, fishing from the boat Restless. His 32.8 lb. King was the biggest of any of the 3 club's, Nassau, Jacksonville, or St. Augustine, caught during the AT&T Greater Jacksonville regular tournament! That won him his name on the perminant big Hamaker Cup, and he gets a free entry into the AT&T Greater Jax Tournament for next year!
Come and visit us!
Visit the Jacksonville Offshore Sport fishing Club’s next meeting as our guest! You will find a great historic sporting association dedicated to preserving and enhancing the family sport fishing off Jacksonville. 2010 is our 51st year as a club. We are a working family club that welcomes the kids at our meetings, and the average boat is a 20’ to 25’ center console fishing boat. We fish the bays, backwaters, river and ocean, and welcome everyone. If you fish in salt water, you need to join, to help fight the junk science that is being used to close all our sport fishing.
Come visit us on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Mayport Boat Ramp. Dinner and soft drinks (Free) start about 7:30 PM and our meetings start at 8:00 PM we usually have great fishing and boating seminars by experts, and have a great time spinning tall stories about local fishing!
