The R & H Sailfish Masters Tournament
Written by Bill Breen
The R & H Sailfish Masters Tournament is going to be held on August 28th this year. This tournament is open to the public, and becoming a very popular tournament locally, as it is a Catch & Release,"HONOR SYSTEM" event, that only cost $100.00 to enter. The Entry fees go into the prize structure, no trophies.
The entry forms will be in local tackle shops in August, and in the Fishing Connection newspaper, as well as at the JOSFC club meetings in August.
You can also register at the Captain's Meeting on August 27th, Friday evening at 7:00 PM located at the JOSFC Club House.
The Rules are simple. You catch as many Sailfish as you can out of Mayport, documenting the time caught for each fish, and the boat with the most releases wins! Rick Rylas and Charlie Hamaker (The Local Fishing Ledgends that are putting on the tournament. ) will go over the details at the Mandatory Captains Meeting.
Tina's 40 pounder
Written by Bill Breen
No, Tina Proescher is NOT standing way back from her Kingfish. That is a 40.5 Lb Kingfish that she caught July 11, 2010. Unfortunately she was not entered in the Kingfish Tournament that was being held out of St. Augustine that day. That fish is a tournament winner, and really one to brag about. I bet that there are not 5 club members that have caught one that big!
Way to go Tina!
The Kingfish Tune-up Tournament
Written by Bill Breen
The kingfish Tune-Up Tournament was a tough one. The weather was good, but the fishing was hard. There were lots of sharks and Cuda’s caught, but the Kingfish were hard to find. With 15 boats entered, only 6 weighed in any fish!
First place went to Vern Summersill, Marcy did the work, and caught a 35 Lb. Kingfish! Then in second, Eddie McGowan with a 30.2 Lb. Kingfish took a big lead in the Captain of the Year race. There are only 3 tournaments left in the race!. Third was Greg Wallace with a 20.4 Lb. Kingfish. 4th was Ray Chancey with a 10.8 Lb. King, then Mike Watts with a 9.2 lb. King and finally Paul Gallup with an 8.9 Lb Fish.
Come and visit us!
Visit the Jacksonville Offshore Sport fishing Club’s next meeting as our guest! You will find a great historic sporting association dedicated to preserving and enhancing the family sport fishing off Jacksonville. 2010 is our 51st year as a club. We are a working family club that welcomes the kids at our meetings, and the average boat is a 20’ to 25’ center console fishing boat. We fish the bays, backwaters, river and ocean, and welcome everyone. If you fish in salt water, you need to join, to help fight the junk science that is being used to close all our sport fishing.
Come visit us on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Mayport Boat Ramp. Dinner and soft drinks (Free) start about 7:30 PM and our meetings start at 8:00 PM we usually have great fishing and boating seminars by experts, and have a great time spinning tall stories about local fishing!
